Ridiculous Concept of the Day: Land Rover Coupe Edition

In which I put forth an idea for a car with no reason for or plausible chance of existing, for the sake of discussion, entertainment and/or pure irony. In the past decade or so, we have seen quite a few SUVs, in either concept or production form, from numerous manufacturers that have traditionally only built sports cars and some sport/luxury sedans. Most notably the Porsche Cayenne, BMW Xs, Audi Qs, and forthcoming models from Lamborghini and Maserati. As much as we enthusiasts bitch and moan about these bloated and unnecessary vehicles, they have proven to be extremely popular and, more importantly, profitable, freeing up some cash to develop the lightweight, manual, RWD sports cars we all love, or something along those lines.

I think it's time for someone to buck the trend, and Land Rover is just the one to do it. They should take the complete opposite approach, and offer a smallish 2-seat sports car, just to shake things up. Professional athletes' wives would have something less excessive to take shopping. Enthusiasts would have another option to look at when considering the likes of the 911, Cayman, F-Type, Mercedes' rumored 911-fighter, maybe the M4, etc. Hell, it could even share the F-Type's underpinnings and simply be fitted with less beautiful and more obnoxious bodywork.

Doesn't this sound interesting? Am I going crazy? Maybe. That's beside the point. Tell me all about why it's a terrible idea in the comments. Good luck with the hideous beast that is PMSing Kinja.

PS. Should I do more of these? I need something to do in Psychology.

It should be a Lotus, but if it has to be a Land Rover, make it 4WD just for the lulz.

I vote yes to doing more of these. As for the idea itself, interesting, but not sure something that should ever be done. Has a sport coupe suv thing ever done well?

I do like your design, or at least the back end. The front screams C7 Corvette to me.
